In Bushwick I also found Mickey Mouse sailing in a sea of drowned toys and lost clothes. Seems like that guy just can't loose ...

Bushwick

The other day I was walking around in my neighbourhod, Bushwick in Brooklyn. I was lucky enough to meet some people who let me take their picture.

Cidade de Deus, Brazil.

Cidade de Deus (City of God) is one of the favelas in Rio de Janeiro, who get the most attention from politicians and media. Both in Brazil and abroad. Most of the time people seem to forget that only a few percent of the habitants live up to the violent portraits as seen in the movie 'City of God'. The rest live a peaceful life, with job, family and play. Walking around one day in the community I took the following photos. Cidade de Deus is a community with a rich cultural life, where local artist, photographers and filmmakers work for empowerment and social change. One of the organisations is Lentes de Sonho, where young people get introduced to the world of modelling.

Natalia

While being in Rio de Janeiro, I made my first audovisual photo essay about Natalia and her family. Natalie is 16 year old and live in the community of Nova Holanda in the favela of Maré. Her mother is in prison and her father is dead, so it is Natalie who has the responsibility for her six younger siblings. She finds her strenght in the boxing lessons she takes at the nearby ngo, Luta Pela Paz (Fight for Peace). The photo essay still needs some final touch, but here are some pictures to beging with.
